Ideas are exciting.
They create momentum. They get people talking. They give teams something tangible to respond to.
But the strongest brand experiences rarely begin with a format, a venue or a fully formed creative concept. They begin with a much more important question:
What needs to be different because this experience happened?
It could be a shift in perception. A deeper relationship. A new conversation. A commercial opportunity. A moment of genuine connection between a brand and its audience.
Whatever the ambition, we define it before we design anything.
At 2Influence, we don’t follow chronology. We start with the outcome and reverse-engineer our way back - defining what success looks like together, then shaping every decision to take us there.
Defining what needs to move
Live experiences are often discussed in terms of what will happen.
Where will it take place? What will the environment look like? Who will perform? What technology could we use? Does there need to be a big reveal?
These are important questions, but they shouldn’t be the first ones.
Before we decide what happens, we need to understand why it is happening.
What should the audience think, feel or do differently afterwards? What does the brand need to communicate? What does the experience need to unlock? And how will we know if it has worked?
The answers may be emotional, cultural or commercial. Often, they are all three.
A brand might need to become relevant to a new audience. A product launch might need to create belief, not simply awareness. A hospitality experience might need to turn an existing relationship into a stronger one. A cultural moment might give a brand the opportunity to earn a place in a conversation - if it enters that conversation in the right way.
Defining that outcome gives the experience a clear job to do.
Creativity with direction
Starting with the outcome doesn’t restrict creativity. It gives it direction.
Rather than asking what we could create, we focus on what we should create for this particular brand, audience and moment.
That clarity influences everything: the central idea, location, format, content, technology, talent, communications and production. Every element has a reason to be there, and every part of the experience works towards the same ambition.
Because audiences don’t experience an event as a collection of separate deliverables. They experience one connected journey.
Every decision can be tested against the same question:
Will this help create the outcome we agreed?
Nothing exists simply because it looks impressive. It earns its place by contributing to the whole.
Success should influence the process
Measurement is often discussed at the end of an experience, when the reporting begins.
We believe it belongs at the start.
That doesn’t mean reducing every experience to a single metric. Live experiences can create value in different ways: attention, participation, sentiment, content, relationships, leads, behavioural change or long-term brand memory.
The important thing is deciding which forms of value matter for this particular audience, brand and moment.
That clarity helps teams make better choices. It focuses investment. It gives creative decisions a reason. It creates a shared understanding of what everyone is working towards.
And it means that when the experience is over, we are not asking whether people enjoyed it in isolation. We are asking whether it created the influence it was designed to create.
From the final feeling to the first decision
The best brand experiences can feel effortless.
Every element belongs. Every interaction feels natural. The audience may never see the strategic thinking, detailed planning or complex production behind the moment, and they shouldn’t need to.
But that sense of ease is rarely accidental.
It comes from knowing where you are going before deciding how to get there.
At 2Influence, we begin by imagining the final feeling, the lasting memory, the conversation that follows and the action we want to inspire. Then we trace the route back to the very first decision.
We think. We create. We make it happen.
But first, we define what needs to happen next.
Because the best experiences don’t begin with an idea. They begin with the influence they are designed to create.
